OUR STORY

Born and raised in Collingwood, Ontario, Katelyn Blakey has always had a love for the arts. Unsure of where her artistic side could take her, Katelyn completed 4 years of post-secondary education at Lakehead University.

In 2015 she graduated with her Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science degree specializing in criminology and geography. Once again, unsure of what her next step should be, she started making fashion jewellery as a hobby.

It was then in 2016 that she applied, and was accepted into, the Summer Company Program run by the government of Ontario. She spent the summer growing her fashion jewellery collection using a variety of different materials such as beads, hemps, and stones, and selling at local events such as the Collingwood Farmers’ Market.

Katelyn continued to grow her collection in 2017, and sell her work, at the Collingwood Farmers’ Market as a side job for the summer. Come the fall, she realized it was time to take things to the next level and applied to the winter accelerated Jewellery Essentials Program run by Fleming College through the Haliburton School of Art & Design.

It was not until January 2018, that she began to truly pursue her artistic side and attempt to make her hobby a potential career.

Established jewellers taught her how to use the equipment, tools, and techniques required to work with silver, copper, brass, and bronze. She learned what her style truly was, and recognized her love for working with sterling silver.

Following the completion of the program, she decided Jump 4 Jewels was ready for an expansion and applied to the Starter Company Plus Program, also run by the government of Ontario.

On May 31st she was accepted into the program, and the expansion began. She re-did the shed, and had her work station up and running by the middle of July.

Katelyn continues to sell at the local annual Collingwood Farmers’ Market, which runs all summer long until Thanksgiving weekend. Numerous fall and Christmas shows/events are on her radar and will be posted! She is also in the midst of having her work displayed and sold in several shops in Collingwood and the surrounding area. Stay tuned!
